My Journey and How I Present Myself and My Art to the World

This post is a part of the July 2024 Artocalypse Blog Carnival ran by the lovely Chris.

My Journey

From the moment I could hold a pen, I've always been a writer. It's like the words chose me as their vessel. For most of my life, my writing has predominantly been poetry—a form that allows me to pour my emotions onto the page, capturing fleeting moments and deep-seated feelings in just a few lines. However, my creative journey took an unexpected turn during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many others, I found myself searching for ways to stay sane and connected during lockdown. That's when I stumbled upon digital art.

Initially, I started creating portraits and cross stitch patterns as a pastime. Little did I know that this would open up a new avenue for my creativity. The cross stitch patterns, in particular, became more than just a hobby; they became a way to connect with others. I began sharing these patterns online, offering them as a constructive activity for people stuck at home. One of the proudest moments of my journey was when I used some of my cross stitch designs to fundraise for NHS Together. It felt incredibly fulfilling to contribute something positive during such a challenging time.

My life took another significant turn when I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder at the age of 21. This diagnosis, while challenging, also made me more focused on my art. It became not just an outlet, but a lifeline—a way to process and navigate the complexities of my condition.

How I Present Myself and My Art to the World

My art and my writing are deeply intertwined. I often present my work in poetic form. My poems aim to capture not just my own emotions, but the collective human experience. I'm very much heart on sleeve, unafraid to delve into raw and vulnerable territories. I believe that by being open and honest, I can create a deeper connection with my audience.

Recently, I've started branching out to blog posts, where I explain the inspiration and meaning behind my artworks. This new format is inspired by the Artocalypse art swap I am participating in, where artists exchange pieces and share the stories behind them. It made me realise the power of context and narrative in enriching the experience of art.

Through my blog, I aim to give my audience a glimpse into my creative process, offering a fuller picture of the emotions and thoughts that go into each piece. Whether it's a poem, a digital portrait, or a cross stitch pattern, each work is a piece of my heart, offered to the world in the hope that it resonates with someone, somewhere.

In the end, my journey and my art are about connection—bridging gaps, fostering understanding, and sharing the human experience one word, one stitch, and one pixel at a time.
