What doesn’t kill you
isn’t always
a lesson
in strength.
Sometimes
it’s a collection
of traumas:
sharp knives
of betrayal
thrown
with precision,
the sting
of financial abuse,
each debt
a wound
that never heals.
You kept my things
like trophies
of your conquest,
reminders
of possession.
Physical abuse
leaves bruises
that fade,
but the pain
settles in the marrow.
Sexual abuse
is an invasion,
a theft
of my sanctuary,
leaving scars,
invisible
but deep.
Emotional abuse
is a storm
eroding
my foundation,
one word
at a time.
Gaslighting
turns truth
into mist,
my reality
shattered
and questioned.
What doesn’t kill you
doesn’t always
make you stronger.
Sometimes
it leaves you
clinging to fragments
of who you were.
But still,
I rise
with every piece
I reclaim,
a mosaic
of survival.
