The Essence of Giving: A Personal Perspective
When we think of gifts, we often picture brightly wrapped parcels, shiny ribbons, and tangible items that can be held and admired. However, for me, a gift transcends the physical realm. It is something more enduring and profound: the intangible qualities of patience, kindness, and love.
So, why do I choose to give these particular gifts? In my view, they hold the potential to shape the future, especially when invested in our youth. The young generation is our future, and nurturing them with understanding and compassion can pave the way for a more inclusive and empathetic world.
As we stepped into 2024, I found meaningful ways to share these gifts. My involvement in youth voice work and my role as a playworker have been instrumental in this journey. These roles have provided me with platforms not only to speak and plan but also to listen deeply. By giving young people the space and opportunity to express themselves, I've worked towards amplifying their voices, including my own, particularly in discussions about the social model of disability. It's been crucial to address the differences between neurodivergence and neurodiversity, ensuring that diverse perspectives are heard and respected.
In conclusion, while gifts wrapped in paper may bring temporary joy, the gifts of patience, kindness, and love have a lasting impact that can transform lives. As we continue into 2025, I am committed to nurturing these qualities within myself and those around me, fostering a supportive environment for future generations.
