The Essence of Giving: A Personal Perspective

When we think of gifts, we often picture brightly wrapped parcels, shiny ribbons, and tangible items that can be held and admired. However, for me, a gift transcends the physical realm. It is something more enduring and profound: the intangible qualities of patience, kindness, and love. So, why do I choose to give these particular gifts? In my view, they hold the potential to shape the future, especially when invested in our youth. The young generation is our future, and nurturing them with understanding and compassion can pave the way for a more inclusive and empathetic world. As we stepped into 2024, I found meaningful ways to share these gifts. My involvement in youth voice work and my role as a playworker have been instrumental in this journey. These roles have provided me with platforms not only to speak and plan but also to listen deeply. By giving young people the space and opportunity to express themselves, I've worked towards amplifying their voices, including my own, part...

My Christmas Wish(es)

If I had three wishes, No jewels or riches for me, Just a little help for this brain of mine, To finally tell left from right. No more your other left jokes, Just simple directions, please. I'd wish for my goals, To stop playing hide and seek, With barriers popping up,  Like unexpected guests at a party. From a disability point of view,  Could we make the world a bit more accessible?  That’d be a cracker. Maybe that’s all just one wish, Wrapped up like a festive present, One where laughter meets understanding. And the world gets a nudge  In the right direction  Because honestly  Who wouldn’t want that for Christmas?l The poem illustrates the everyday challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, touching upon the desire for understanding and accessibility. It also alludes to the broader conversation around the social model of disability. What is the Social Model of Disability? The social model of disability is a way of viewing the world, develope...

Featured on Catalogue Zine

Thrilled to share that my poem on disability and the environment has been featured on Catalogue Zine's main page! 🌍♿ It's a piece that speaks to the challenges and complexities of living sustainably when faced with physical limitations. Every choice we make impacts our planet, but what happens when our bodies can't align with those choices? Grateful for the opportunity to highlight these important issues and hopeful that it sparks a broader conversation. https://zinecatalogue.wixstudio.com/cataloguezine/featured

Letter to me 2034!

I wrote a letter to myself it was initially going to be about Christmas traditions and what I wanted to keep the same but then I realised that was just a microcosm for what I wanted to keep the same about myself. Obviously there's always room for improvements but I don't want to lose these amazing qualities of myself either.  dear future me, ten years from now as the world spins on and we grow older I hope you find comfort  in the simple joys the laughter of loved ones the warmth of a shared meal may these remain constants I hope you’ve held onto kindness in a world that tests it that you’ve nurtured dreams  and let go of what burdens may you still dance  under the open sky find solace in books and wonder in the stars let love continue to shape you in all its forms may it be your guide through every season I wish for peace  within your heart amidst life’s storms and courage to embrace change as it comes remember the person who wrote this with hope in their eyes ...

A quiet lab

A quiet lab  in a quiet lab  men in white coats  discovered how  to split the atom  a tiny sun  born in our hands  promising warmth  and light  to every darkened corner  yet in the same breath  this new dawn  carries the shadow  of an ending  for what is progress  but a double-edged sword  cutting through peace  and warfare alike  in the hum of machines  and scribbled notes  we sought to master  the invisible world  but with each leap  came the shattering  of innocence  and the paradox of creation  what once was whole  now lies divided  a choice between  a hopeful sun  or a blistering star  and so we stand  at the brink  of our own brilliance  and destruction  wondering if we will  ever learn  to wield our light  without shadow  and find a way  to build  a future  where knowledge...
